GINKGO BILOBA WHAT IS GINKGO BILOBA?

Ginkgo is thought to be the oldest tree on the planet, first growing 200 million years ago in China. It is commonly known as the Maidenhair Tree.

Trees can live as long as 1000 years and grow to 100-120 ft. in height. The tree was introduced to Europe in 1730 and America in 1784, it was used as an ornamental tree.

WHAT ARE THE ACTVE INGREDIENTS IN GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT?

The active ingredients of GINGKO BILOBA are found in the leaves which contain at least 26 identified components. There are two groups of active constitutents in GINGKO BILOBA extracts which are standardized- the ginkgo flavone glycosides (24%) and terpene lactones (6%).

The flavone glycosides are a carefully measured balance of quercetin (10%), kaempferol and isorhamnetin. The primary terpene lactones in ginkgo biloba extract are the three ginkgolides A, B and C, as well as bilobalide. There terpenes are unique to ginkgo and are not found in any other plant. The action of there terpenes include neuroprotection, improvement in circulation, inhibition of platelet-activating factor (PPAF) and cognitive activation.

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL HEALTH BENEFITS OF GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT?

1) Ginkgo Biloba Extract is a very strong antioxidant. It protects cells from damage, including dysfunctional brain cells and clogged blood vessels in the brain, heart and extremeties.

2) Ginkgo's ginkgolides discourage blood platelet stickiness, reducing formation of blood clots and plaque buildup mainly by inhibition of platelet-activating factor. (PAF)

3) GBE prevents metabolic disturbances by enhancing oxygen utilization and increasing cellular uptake of glucose, thus restoring energy production.

4) The nerve tissue actions of GBE includes and increased nerve transmission rate and improved synthesis of brain neurotransmitters. it is effective in Alzheimer's disease.

Ginkgo extracts help to increase blood flow in the arteries and decrease blood clotting. They boost metabolism, neurotransmission and electrical activity in the brain. Short-term and mental alertness improves as a result.

OTHER CLINICAL USES OF GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT INCLUDE:

Celebral Insuffiency and Impaired Mental Performance - The major symptoms are short-term memory loss, vertigo, headache (migraines), ringing in the ears or tinnitus and depression.

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE - Ginkgo biloba extract may be effective in delaying mental deterioration in the early stages of the disease and in preventing the disease. Improvements of the following symptoms have been reported: walking ability, visual ability, hearing, equilibrium, EEG reading and mood.

VASCULAR DISEASE- This would include arteriolar sclerosis (hardening of the arteries), high blood pressure and poor circulation ( leg cramps and inflammation).

EYE DISEASE- Ginkgo biloba extract may improve long distance visual acuity in both macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

IMPOTENCE- Ginkgo biloba extract is helpful in cases where impotence is due to impaired blood flow to erectile tissue.

PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME -Ginkgo is effectve in treating the following symptoms of PMS: fluid retention (edema) and breast pain or tenderness.

WHAT IS THE SUGGESTED DOSAGE OF GINKGO BILOBA EXTRACT?

For maximum health benefits, it is recommended to take 120-240 mg. in divided dosage taken consistently for 12 weeks.
